Spain already has a release date for Mulán, the new Disney remake

Last month we had news about Disney: the production company would delay several of its releases due to the Coronovarius crisis and some of the titles that came to light were "Antlers" and "The New Mutants". The latter is a curious case since for reasons beyond COVID-19, rather because of disagreements and instability in the producers, it has already been delayed five times.

Another release that Disney had to pause indefinitely was the "Mulan" live-action, which was scheduled for March 27. Mulan wikipedia This delay was undoubtedly one of the most disappointing since very high expectations have been generated around it. Despite the consolidation of Disney Plus in just a short time as one of the leading streaming platforms, it is true that the Mickey Mouse company continues to prioritize that its projects be released in theaters and reserves release dates, even years in advance.

The remake of this animated classic, as announced this morning at the Spanish subsidiary of Disney, will now premiere on July 24, 2020. This date was the original for the premiere of "Jungle Cruise", which will now be delayed a year, until July 31, 2021.

The new "Mulan" is directed by New Zealand director Niki Caro, and stars Liu Yifei. We have closely followed all the advances of this long-awaited live-action and the modifications on the animated film, such as dispensing with Mushu or the musical numbers; Despite this, it already has good first reviews and we know that it purely preserves the essence of that 1998 "Mulán".

Disney prepares 'live action' movie of Hercules

After making the non-animated film of Mulan and launching the Peter Pan film, Disney is preparing the 'live action' of Hercules, a film about the famous hero of classical mythology that came out in animation in 1997.

Joe and Anthony Russo, the filmmakers behind Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019), will be producers of this new Mulan film, but will not be in charge of directing, the US site The Hollywood Reporter noted.

The new Hercules will feature a script signed by Dave Callaham, who has left his mark on films such as Wonder Woman 1984 and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. As for actors, there are not yet any confirmed.

Under the direction of John Musker and Ron Clements, the original Hercules film reinterpreted with the Disney label and many musical parts the story of the demigod of Greek mythology.

From his position of absolute dominator of Hollywood, thanks to both its original content and the success of Marvel or Star Wars, Disney has focused much of its efforts in recent years to reimagine some of its animation classics.

Disney is working on many more projects of this style, since, in addition to the new Hercules, it has in its portfolio new films from The Little Mermaid, Cruella, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Robin Hood and Peter Pan.

Mulan: Disney could be planning a sequel

In March, we should have seen the Disney action classic remake of Mulan in theaters, told from a perspective closer to the Chinese legend than to the cartoon. However, COVID-19 changed the plans of the studios and the film was forced to change its release date.

At the moment, Mulan became Disney's first post-pandemic premiere that has already set a new release date. If all goes well, Mulan disney film would arrive in Spain on July 24. On the other hand, it has been said that this live-action remake is the most risky Disney has done so far; due to his budget, which was around 200 million dollars. That is why the rumor that Daniel Richtman released in his Patreon and collected Full Circle Cinema is so rare. According to Richtman, a sequel for Mulan would be in the early planning stages, and was intended to be announced as soon as the first one took off in theaters.

In principle, only the producers would be confirmed to return: Chris Bender, Jason Reed and Jake Weiner. Neither Niki Caro in the direction nor anyone from the cast led by Liu Yifei would have signed yet to make that sequel. At the moment, you have to take this rumor very carefully since Disney did not officially confirm anything. And they may have been planning to announce a sequel at the time if the film worked well at the box office, especially in China, but the coronavirus has changed all the plans ahead.
